About this image:
John Hopkins Glacier in Glacier Bay National Park
From afar, it is evident as to how big Johns Hopkins Glacier
is. You can see off center in the photo, there is an area of
constant collapse of the glacier face. While this looks like
the most active area, there was a lot of activity on the
outer flanges. |

About this image:
Johns Hopkins Glacier in Glacier Bay National Park
Looking at this photo, it is incredible to think of the
solidity of this glacier while seeing the huge cracks and
crevasses, peaks and spires of the glacier - visually you
expect this glacier to just collapse at any moment. |

About this image:
Mad Dog in the ice in Glacier Bay National Park
The great expanse of the glacier and the ice flows is
awe-inspiring. From here you can look in every direction and
see nothing but ice, glaciers and bergys. To think that all
of this ice in the water will be melted and dissolved within
a week, however as fast as it melts, new ice and bergys are
added. It is amazing to think that of all the bergys you can
see in the water, only 10% - 20% of the ice is visible above
the water.

About this image:
Harbor Seal on a bergy in Glacier Bay National Park
Harbor Seals give birth to their young on the floating
pieces of ice. From May 1 until June 30, no vessels are
allowed into Johns Hopkins Inlet due to the pupping of these
seals. This Harbor Seal was taking a leisurely afternoon
resting in the sun. It laid on the ice relaxing and posing
as we silently slipped by. |

About this image:
Harbor Seal on a bergy in Glacier Bay National Park
Apparently our reputation preceded us and this Harbor Seal
gave us a big smile and posed for the picture - obviously
happy to have us take her photo. |

About this image:
Navigating the ice in the catamaran dingy in Glacier Bay
National Park
Our intrepid photographer
on Mad Dog Voyager, decided
to head out in the dingy to make a few interesting
photos. While looking through the eyepiece of the
camera, he had obviously "focused" more on the photos
and less on the ice closing in around him. While the
catamaran "Little Dog" runs great on open water, it's
open front end between the sponsons collected the ice
like a shovel and made movement almost impossible. Hmmm,
I wonder if Leo will make it back in time for snacks and
lunch.... |
