About this image:
Robinson Crusoe
Just as Robinson Crusoe found himself on a tropical island,
Dean wondered if the same thing would work in Glacier Bay.
This floating "ice-land" looked to be very inviting, however
it was soon obvious that there were no palm trees, no
firewood and fresh fruit and crabs couldn't be found
anywhere. Dean (giving up the idea of being a Robinson
Crusoe) waved Mad Dog Voyager back to pick him up - this
wasn't a tropical paradise! |

About this image:
Harbor seal again
One last round and we saw the harbor seal was still just
hanging out on her
bergy.
It's good that these Harbor Seals have a thick layer of
blubber under their skin, otherwise there may be a little
frostbite here and there... |

About this image:
Lush mountains
Just outside and around the corner from John Hopkins Inlet,
we saw this region that looked very inviting. With the
humidity and moisture always present, some of the
mountainsides grow into what looks like should be found in
more lush areas. The snow on the peak in the background is
the give-away though - it's still Glacier Bay Park. |

About this image:
The Cave
Passing close to shore (where it was still surprisingly
deep) we saw this "hole in the wall". Not sure if anyone
lives here, but it looks like it'd be a nice place to hang
out with a campfire and watch a nice sunset. You can see the
water here has changed from the greenish-grey near the
glaciers into this mesmerizing turquoise blue. |

About this image:
More lush landscape
The landscape in Glacier Bay provides an incredible
diversity of scenery. Here is another photo that encompasses
a bit of everything. It has Glacier ice and snow with bare
rock at the top,
bergys
in the turquoise blue waters, incredible coloration of the
rocks and more of the lush inviting vegetation. |

About this image:
Waterfall
Here's another thing we found interesting in Glacier Bay
- there are a surprising number of waterfalls. Of course
with so much Ice field and Glacial areas, there have to
be ways for the melted water to make it's way to the
waters edge. This picture seemed almost typical of what
we saw. A waterfall making it's way through the rock and
vegetation and looking almost as if it could be taken
direct out of a tropic setting. |
